The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a pastor, Peter Ayodele Omope, over alleged attempted m#rder and unlawful possession of prohibited fire#rm.
The suspect, who’s the lead pastor of Celestial Church of Christ (CCC), Jesu Yan Parish, located at Olambe Junction in Akute area of the state, was arrested following a distress call received by the police from one Deji Olaketan.
According to the command’s spokesperson, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, Olaketan reported that the clergy sh#t a teenage girl with whom he was on transit.
“Both Deji and the g#nshot victim, 18-year-old Kemi Johnson, worked as a driver and housemaid respectively with their female employer in the area, who they conveyed to the airport, and were returning late at night when they were alerted that ‘Oro’ worshippers, a form of deity in Yoruba land, were ahead on the Olambe route they were passing through.
To avoid running into the ‘Oro’, the consequence of which would have been d#ath, Deji and Kemi felt safer joining in the vigil being held at the ‘Jesu Yan Parish’ of the CCC, where the suspect shepherds, at least, to pass the night.
But against their expectation, hardly had they arrived the church entrance than the suspect and parish shepherd came out with a Pump Action rifle. Before they could utter any explanation, he had sh#t Kemi Johnson on the leg.
The victim was quickly rushed to Ifako-Ijaye General Hospital, from where she was referred to the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) and finally, on a referral, to the Lagos Orthopaedics Hospital, Igbobi.
The Pump Action rifle and five live cartridges were recovered from the suspect, police disclosed,” Oyeyemi said in a statement.
