Man arraigned for allegedly as*aulting LASTMA officers in Lagos  .

A 36-year-old man, Nureni Malik, was on Monday, arraigned before Ebute-Metta Chief Magistrate’s Court, for alleged as*ault and att*ck on three Officials of Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA)


The victims are;  Shotonwa Abiodun; Fanusi Banwo and Babade Olufemi. According to the police, the suspect and others now at large committed the offence on November 30, 2021, at Costain Roundabout, Lagos.

The police through its prosecutor, Inspector Dunni Raphael, told the court presided over by Chief Magistrate A. O. Akinde, that the defendant and others at large, despite as*aulting the LASTMA officers, also stole their phones valued at N220k. The prosecutor also told the court that the defendant, with sharp objects and d*ngerous weapons, inflicted various degree of inj*ries on the victims.

He also told the court that the defendant and others during the incidence, caused breach of public peace. The prosecutor told the court that the defendant’s actions, contravened Sections 411; 173; 287 and 168(D) of criminal law of Lagos state of Nigeria, 2015.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Following his plea of not guilty, his lawyer, Mr. F. S. Oladele and A. Amaka, urged the court to admit him to bail in the most liberal terms on the ground that the offences are bailable one. Ruling on the bail appllication, Chief Magistrate Akinde admitted him to bail in the sum of N1 million with two sureties in like sums.

The Chief Magistrate while ordering that the defendant be remanded pending the fulfilment of the bail term, adjourned the matter till January 25, 2022, for mention.
