The Guild!
A-list actors are price gouging and the AGN are doing nothing about it.
Why would they? How can they? When the structure that is supposed to curb excessiveness has been turned into a tunnel of milking funds; even the market women association is more put together compared to the guild of actors in Nigeria.
For as long as I know, guilds play a structural role in any industry however; I think this part is lacking a lot in the Nigerian acting sector. Looking at this from the perspective of start-up producers based in Canada, it is difficult to get A-list actors from Nigeria to come play a role in films.
Yes, it all boils down to budget. This is not on the basis of affordability but more of the basis of inflation from the actors but that is not the painful part, it is when a producer goes through hell and back to bring an actor on board and the delivery is nothing compared to the price called.
Let them evaluate the delivery of those so called A-list actors and other LISTS. With that, the guilds have a structure in place where there is a benchmark price according the level of the actor you want to hire I mean, if you know who you want to hire, you can weigh the budget in-place for them. The absence of such structure is what makes start-up producers go through a hard time in hiring acts.
What I am saying is simple…
We are all here because we see this as a stream of income asides the fact that we are purpose driven but, if the guild can put a structure to payment, pay attention to actors delivery and overall – storytelling. I feel our films would look better and the industry would be more put together.
