A 400-level student of Biochemistry student of the Kebbi State University of Science and Technology Aliero, Sharif Sale-Kanya, was allegedly beaten to death by an angry mob over N3500 failed transfer, in Aliero community, Kebbi State.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the unfortunate incident occurred on Saturday night, February 27, just a week before his graduation. An eyewitness who spoke to newsmen said the deceased reportedly bought a handset in Aliero town and made payment through a transfer.
According to the eyewitness, Sharif immediately after purchasing the handset went into the examination hall and switched it off.
“However, a few hours later, he realised that the money he transferred for the payment of the handset had been reversed due to network failure. Sharif returned to Aliero town to pay for the handset in cash when a mob of youth descended on him, on getting there for being a thief.
He was rushed to the General Hospital, but was confirmed dead shortly after he was admitted,” the eyewitness said.
Confirming the report, the President, National Union of Kebbi State Students (NUKESS) Comr. Kabiru Sama’ila Wara, in a statement said that over 20 persons have been arrested in connection with the incident.
