In fulfilment of his pledge to support every effort of the federal government to combat the corona-virus pandemic, particularly, the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN’s Nigerian Private Sector Coalition Against COVID-19, Dr Mike Adenuga, the chairman of Globacom Limited, has redeemed his N1.5billion pledge.
Yes, in spite of the limited banking services occasioned by the pandemic, the self-effacing philanthropist ensured that the N1billion hit the CBN’s COVID-19 dedicated account on April 3rd. Copies of the telex and Sterling Bank letter confirming the payment have been exclusively obtained by TheCapital. .
This puts to rest the sustained social media insinuations and outright attacks on Adenuga that he is dithering on redeeming his pledge.
Earlier, his daughter, Bella Adenuga-Disu, who also serves as executive vice chairman of Globacom, had presented a cheque of N500million to the Lagos State government donated for the same cause. Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu received the cheque on behalf of the state government.
Adenuga-Disu stated, “My father, Dr. Mike Adenuga through his foundation is committed to the wellbeing of Nigerian citizens, especially at this time when the country grapples to contain the Coronavirus pandemic. He commends the efforts being made by the government, individuals and organizations to tackle the challenge.”
In a statement, Adenuga described the coalition as a commendable and worthwhile initiative that deserves the moral and financial support of all stakeholders of the private sector. [SWIPE]
