Today, Lucky Esonahae, a 37-year-old bar operator, was sentenced to 5 years imprisonment at a Magistrates’ Court in Benin, Edo State. He was arraigned on a count of causing bodily harm. The incident occurred at Uwelu Quartres, Benin. Lucky had
poured kerosene on the head of Stella Isaac, who was 7 months pregnant, lit a match and set her on fire. .
She was rescued by one of her sons and a neighbour, who forced the door of her room open, as she had been locked in. Lucky had earlier accused her of infidelity for allegedly returning at about 6pm from her antenatal.
He pleaded guilty to the offense and begged for leniency but the presiding magistrate, Igho Braimoh, said the court would not be lenient. She sentenced him to 5 years imprisonment with hard labour…… and advised Stella not to cheat on him while away in her own best interest…..
