According to THE NATION, the protect was meant to be one of GEJ’s administration’s star projects. But, with N7b already spent, the Vice President ’s official home is now abandoned and subdued by weeds. The Federal
Capital Development Authority (FCDA) abandoned the project, following the refusal of the 7th Senate ( the immediate past one ) to accept the inflation of the contract sum by N9b.
The builders, Julius Berger, have not been fully paid despite the release of the N7b. Why they were shortchanged isn’t clear. The project is yet to reach 80% completion, contrary to the facts presented to the Senate by the FCDA. The contract was awarded in 2009 at N7b. But in 2012, a former Minister of FCT, Sen. Bala Mohammed, came with a request for N9b more to complete the project.
There was public outrage. The then Senate Committee on FCT, led by Senator Smart Adeyemi, rejected the request for the additional N9b, which was more than 100%. He said it was “indefensible”. And so the project was abandoned…… d V.P is now squatting wt some of d security men in Aso Rock……
