NDLEA arrests police inspector trafficking 75 sacks of Cannabis with staff bus

The Nigeria Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Kogi State yesterday paraded 14 suspected drug peddlers, including a serving police Inspector, Abali Zagi, and a dismissed Army Corporal, Umar Shehu, with over 1,083.6kg of cannabis, valued at N6m.

State Commander, Mohammed Bello Idris, said the policeman was apprehended with 75 sacks of cannabis, weighing 818kg, around Kabba junction, while returning from Okpela in Edo State. The seized drug, worth N4m, was loaded into a welfare vehicle marked NPF7973C.

He said his patrol team had earlier allowed him a free pass but perceived the smell of weeds and decided to pursue the bus and arrested them. After a thorough search, the exhibits were found.

According to him, another suspect, Umar Shehu, who is a dismissed military officer, was arrested with 44kg of the banned substance. Shehu was dismissed from the Nigerian Army because of mutiny in Maiduguri, when they refused to fight Boko Haram.
