Yesterday, the FG said that the rampaging killer herdsmen are not Fulani herdsmen but Boko Haram insurgents because most of those arrested so far, were non-Nigerians and do not speak Fulfude (Fulani language) nor any Nigerian language for that matter.
Heineken Lokpobiri, Minister of State for Agriculture who made the disclosure, said that the stigmatisation of Fulani herdsmen as the killers is what has aggravated the already bad situation, noting that many farmers and Fulani cattle-rearers have been killed in needless reprisals.
His words: “Available statistics to us show that contrary to media reports that these violent herdsmen are the conventional Nigerian Fulanis, they are not, as none of those apprehended was able to speak any of the Nigerian languages, giving strong credence to the possibility of the violent herdsmen to be another form of terrorists in the mode of Boko Haram.”
