A Federal high Court has ordered EFCC to pay the sum of N10m as damages to Chief Uche Secondus, after declaring his arrest and subsequent detention as illegal. Secondus had approached the court to enforce his fundamental human rights, which he claimed was infringed upon by EFCC.
A month ago, EFCC arrested Secondus for illegally receiving 23 luxury vehicles valued at N310 million from controversial businessman, Jide Omokore. His name popped up while EFCC was investigating Omokore who lifted crude oil repeatedly through his company but failed to remit the money to the FG.
In the motion before the court, he asked Justice Tsho to declare his arrest and detention as illegal. He also asked the court to award damages against EFCC…. wt a promise that he’d pay his tithe once he receives d payment….
