Yesterday, Yewande Oyediran was granted permission by the Oyo State High Court to appear for her trial proceedings in veil. Yewande who was alleged to have stabbed her husband to death in Ibadan earlier this year, was allowed to use veil on the grounds that it would give her the freedom to show her face to only thd counsel and the trial judge.
The argument for and against the veil was triggered by a motion filed by the family of the deceased’s lawyer, Chief Aliyu, who expressed that his clients doubted the true identity of the suspect and are demanding that the masking material be removed during trial to ascertain the suspects identity.
Reacting to the filed motion, the former boss of Yewande Oyediran and the Oyo State Director of Public Prosecutions, Tajudeen Abdulganiy, who is also representing Yewande, disagreed with the appellant’s counsel, noting that the suspect was only responsible to the court and not the people at the gallery.
