No fewer than 100 angry youths, on Monday, stormed the premises of Protea Hotel in Benin, Edo State, to protest against the killing of Chibuike Edeh, 22, a housekeeping employee of the hotel. Chibuike had been arrested by the police and
taken to the Adesuwa Police Station after he was accused by the management of the hotel of stealing N42,000 from one of the rooms.
But some of the youths said late Chibuike was unjustly killed, as he was known for his honesty. Chibuzo, Chibuike’s brother, said the family was informed of his arrest and told to provide the stolen money and an undisclosed amount for his bail. Chibuzo added that later, his brother could not be found either at the hotel or the police station.
He said the family was shocked when it discovered Chibuike s corpse at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital. Christiana, Chibuike’s, said Chibuike had earlier expressed fear when she visited him at the police station by telling her that he might not leave the station alive.
But the Edo State Police Command denied complicity in his death, adding that he died as a result of injuries sustained after he was knocked down by a Toyota Camry, while trying to escape….. wt d wounds on his body, the car mst av turned into an hungry lion and attacked him…..
