Dayo Kamorudeen, 50, a taxi driver in Lekki, Lagos, nearly ran mad on Sunday, January 17, 2016, when he heard the most shocking secret, Kemi, his wife of 20 years and mother of their 3 children, had
been keeping from him.
Kemi was visiting Akute, a place where they lived for many years before relocating to their new house in Oke-Ogun, Ibeju- Lekki, Lagos. Kemi was as usual hell bent on visiting Akute, but this time, Dayo, prevented her.
That was when Kemi started crying, mentioning the name of Alfa Shehu Lukman, the Islamic cleric that was teaching their children Qur’anic studies before they left Akute. She said if she wasn’t allowed to visit Alfa, he would kill Dayo and their children and make her run mad.
When asked why, she said she had a frightening dream one day and since Dayo wasn’t around, she approached Alfa, who told her it was due to spiritual husband. He said to treat it, he’d have to make an incision on her private part.
During the incision making process, he raped and made her vow with the Quran not tell anyone. That she’d run mad and lose her husband and children if she dares leak the secret, adding that she must always make herself available anytime he wants sex with her.
This went on for 2 years until last Sunday. Dayo also recollected that before they left Akute, their last daughter suddenly said she was never going to attend the Alfa’s Qur’anic class anymore, after she alleged that he attempted to rape her, an allegation they discarded, then.
The Alfa however denied having sex with Kemi but agreed that he made an incision close to her private part. Dayo has now reached out to activist, Esther Ogwu, of the Esther Child Rights Foundation, for help. Ogwu says the Alfa preyed on Kemi’s fear and that it’s possible that he might be doing the same thing to other people in Akute.
