Operatives of the police, Imo State command, have arrested two persons alleged to be part of a syndicate operating a baby factory in Aba, Abia State. .
The arrest was based on a tip off that one Blessing Sunday, 30, a stewardess at Mma Charity Home in Umumkpee, allegedly lured one Onuwa Grace Nwachukwu, a pregnant mother of twins to the State. .
A caesarian section was carried out on her and the newly delivered babies were stolen and sold by the owner of the centre, Mrs. Mma Achumba, while Blessing hurriedly returned Grace to her village in Okwe-Owerre Umueze II, while she was still bleeding. .
Angered, the youths of the community descended on Blessing, and were about to set her and her family house ablaze but for a team of police officers that arrived the scene.
The police then rushed the victim to the Police Clinic, Owerri, where she was admitted for treatment. .
It was gathered that after her discharge from the clinic, the victim led police operatives to the centre where 14 pregnant young women and four children were rescued. .
The victims were kept at the centre waiting for the time they would deliver their babies and the owner of the home would pay them money ranging between N300,000 to N350,000 depending on the sex of the baby after selling them off. .
The director of the centre, Mrs. Mma Achumba, and her staff are still at large and effort is on to track and arrest the syndicate.
