A coalition of Nigerian civil society groups is protesting at the British High Commission, Abuja, over the award of $9.6 billion to Process and Industrial Development (P&ID) Ltd.
The CSOs in a statement by its President, Etuk Bassey, described judgement as a “travesty to justice, disrespect to the sovereignty of the Nigerian government.”
In 2010, FG entered into a deal with P&ID to build a gas processing plant in Calabar, Cross River state. However, the deal collapsed because Nigeria did not meet its end of the bargain. .
On August 16, 2019, a British court gave P&ID the go-ahead to seize Nigerian assets worth $9 billion after it sued the country. The FG said it is working to ensure that none of the country’s assets is seized.
