US-based Nigerian musician gets jailed for attempting to steal $3.5m in tax refunds

  

Last week Thursday, Olufunsho Adeshina, 29-year-old guitarist, was sentenced to 41 months in a federal prison and must pay $753,063 in restitution to the Internal Revenue Service for trying to steal more than $3m in fake tax refunds.

Investigators say Adeshina collected nearly $800k from more than 50 refunds by filing false tax returns under other people’s names. He ended up collecting roughly $750k. The IRS said he tried to file for more than $3.5m in refunds but many didn’t go through.

3 local banks helped investigators in the bust after noticing suspicious behavior. He has been in federal custody since April, 2014, after being arrested at Atlanta-Hartsfield Airport returning to the US from Nigeria…. n has been perfecting his guitar skills….
