Yesterday, Osun State Commissioner of Police, Kola Sodipo, said the armed robbers that attacked branches of First Bank, Skye Bank and Union Bank in Ikirun, on Friday, killed two policemen, two bankers and
six passers-by, before they were overpowered.

Four of the robbers were killed and four members, Aderibigbe Oluwaseun, Ndubisi David, Ayuba Abubaka Saliu and Nuhu Jimoh, were arrested and 3 AK47 rifles with 124 rounds of live ammunition were recovered from them.

N7,486,300 and a Nissan Sunny car used for the operation were also recovered. He said that the robbers suspected to be indigenes of Kogi and Benue States had been in Osun State through their informants before eventually launching the attack on Friday.

They successfully overpowered the police in Ikirun but the DPO from Iragbiji was said to have sprung a surprise when he led a team of police with an Armored Personnel Carrier (APC) to engage them for about 30 minutes before reinforcements came from Osogbo.

The DPO operated the APC and used it to demobilise their operational vehicle before reportedly killing 3 of them thereby foiling the operation. The robbers attacked the banks with dynamites and placed explosives in strategic locations in the area where the banks are located.
