OAU slams lengthy suspension on student union leaders

The management of the Obafemi Awolowo University suspended them for allegedly threatening a professor. The president, Omotayo Akande, got 3 years suspension, while the Secretary General, Oketooto Oluwaseun and the Public Relations Officer, Ojedokun Emmanuel got 2 years each.

Emmanuel is a 400-level student of International Relations and had just two months to graduate before his suspension. Trouble began when the student leaders went into a class where Prof. Y. K. Yusuf was delivering a lecture, desiring to make an announcement to the students, but the lecturer walked them out.

Feeling insulted, they reportedly went to the lecturer’s office and threatened to parade him round the campus if he failed to issue an apology. When he refused, the SUG president allegedly sent a text message to the VC, declaring that the safety of the professor could no longer be guaranteed on campus if he failed to tender an apology.

A panel set up by the school’s management to investigate the matter recommended that the students be suspended for 3 years. Emmanuel however denied ever threatening the safety of the professor, saying the university management was using that as an excuse for the suspension….. n advised d VC to urgently leave trash for LAWMA in his own best interest…..
