The people of Nembe communities of Bayelsa State have rejected the offer of a goat and 10 bags of rice to the communities by the
management of the Nigerian Agip Oil Company. The Xmas gifts were turned down by the people through the Oil and Gas committee headed by Chief Nengi James
The people of the oil rich Kingdom were angry because the gift items of a goat and 10 bags of rice were meant to be shared by just about 500,000 people. James, described the gift as “a corporate embarrassment to the traditional institution and the good people of Nembe Kingdom which the people will never take kindly”.
He noted that for Agip to give 10 bags of rice and one goat to a community of about 500,000 people, it is a clear demonstration of the crass insensitivity of the multinational company to the community which is a major hub of Agip’s operations.
James stressed that the people of Nembe will never be cowed by any Greek gift. According to him, Nembe Kingdom is in dire need of development and employment for the teeming unemployed youths alongside environmental protection…. they r ingrates. D goat could’ve been used to prepare a well peppered “Nkwobi,” which would’ve conveniently gone round……
