Catholic priests protest as another colleague is shot dead in Enugu

Catholic priests in Enugu, on Friday, staged a protest to condemn the killing of one their colleagues, Reverend Fr. Paul Offu, on the night of August, 1, 2019.

A Catholic priest of Enugu Diocese, Reverend Fr. Paul Offu, was killed in Awgu Local Government Area of the state around 7:30 p.m. on Thursday night.

His death is coming barely five months after Rev. Fr. Clement Ugwu, the parish priest of St Mark Catholic Church, Obinofia Ndiuno, was killed.

Fr. Ugwu, who was kidnapped on March 20, 2019 was found dead in a bush decomposing after a one-week search by his parishioners.

Fr. Offu’s death comes on the heels of a recent attack on Ikechukwu Ilo, another Reverend Father, along Nomeh, on Wednesday, July 17, by suspected kidnappers who opened fire on him after he refused to stop his car.

The priest reportedly sustained gunshot injuries and is currently recuperating in an undisclosed hospital.
